The White Horse Inn pub, Thruxton

Nestled in the heart of the village, The White Horse Inn is a pretty thatched pub dating from the 15th century, but there’s nothing old-fashioned about the locally sourced food. While the architecture preserves a bygone era, the kitchen operates with a modern culinary flair, prioritizing fresh ingredients from nearby suppliers to create a sophisticated dining experience.
The menu changes to reflect the seasons to ensure every dish is at its peak, but a typical evening might include a succulent slow roast Gressingham duck finished with a rich redcurrant and port reduction, followed by a vibrant passion fruit brulée. The quality of the fare is a significant draw, and B&B is also on offer if the meal and hospitality are so good that you simply don’t want to leave!
Visually, the pub wouldn’t look out of place on a chocolate box, characterized by its iconic thatched roof and ancient internal oak beams that exude a warm, rustic charm. For those visiting in the warmer months, there’s a lovely beer garden perfect for a relaxed afternoon.
The inn is also a hub for local culture; they’ve been known to host an annual beer and music festival, so you might like to time your trip to fit in with that lively celebration. And of course, you can always stay at the pub overnight, allowing you the freedom to fully sample some of their delightful beers and fine ales without the worry of the drive home.
